Jorge Gutiérrez

Jorge Gutiérrez Argüelles was born in February 27, 1957, in Tula, Hidalgo. He was born into a family without any taurine antecedent. Nevertheless, when he was 17, he decided quit prepschool and become a bullfighter. He always imagined himself like a bullfighter.

He had his firsts triumphs at Plaza La Florecita, in Ciudad Satélite, showing his art, bravery and decision. He was awarded the first tail in his life at this plaza, in the ending of 1975.

He made his debut like a novillero at Plaza Mexico in July 27, 1977. Before this, he had a lot of triumphs at Guadalajara (Plaza Nuevo Progreso) and Venezuela (Nuevo Circo, in Caracas). At Venezuela, he fought six bullfights and won the Gold's ear. At Mexico, he fought eight bullfights and won the Silver's sword thrust.

With all this triumphs, he received the alternativa at Plaza Mexico in February 11, 1978. The godfather was Manolo Martinez and the witness was Curro Rivera. Bulls were fron Javier Garfias's ranch ( The best card that would've been in that time !). He confirmed the alternativa in May 22, 1982, in Plaza Las Ventas in Madrid, Spain (The most important in all the world !). The godfather was Manolo Vazquez and the witness was Antonio Chenel "Antoñete". Bulls were from Celestino Cuadri's ranch.

He was awarded an ear in the second bullfight he fought in Spain (May 26, 1982). In that season, he fought 28 bullfights, two of them in France. He was awarded 15 ears and a tail.

We can say that Jorge Gutiérrez is Plaza Mexico's owner because people like him more than other bullfighters (everytime he fights at Plaza Mexico, we can hear a shout from the top of it that says: Jorge Gutiérrez, and that's all !). He has fought more than 46 bullfights at Plaza Mexico. He has been awarded 44 ears and two tails. One of these tails was the number 101 in Plaza Mexico's history. It was in January 27, 1992. Bull was "Concentido" from San Martin's ranch. In the 90-91 season he fought nine bullfights and was awarded seven ears and, in the 91-92 season he fought six bullfights with twelve ears and a tail. He was the best bullfighter in those seasons.

95-96 season was the Jorge Gutiérrez's resurrection season. He made excellent performances, one of them in February 5, 1996 (Plaza Mexico's 50th anniversary), but he lost the ears because a bad sword thrust. Another (maybe the best bullfight of that season) was in March 17, 1996, when he indultó "Giraldillo" from Manolo martinez's ranch. That was the second indulto he got at Plaza Mexico. The first was in January 1981. Bull was "Poco a Poco" from San Martin's ranch.

He is a very famous bullfighter. He has fought in Spain, Venezuela, France, Colombia, Peru and Mexico. There are two books about his life. He has a beautifull family and some money (maybe a lot). Nevertheless, he is still looking for his perfect bullfight.
